Abstract

Correlation and path analysis was performed using sixteen genotypes of mung bean for eight component characters including seed yield. Field experimental was laid out at Agricultural Research Station, Fatehpur, Shekhawati, Sikar (SKN Agriculture University, Jobner) Rajasthan (India) under a randomized block design with three replications; observation was recorded on ten plants were selected at random from each plot for plant height, pod length, number of seeds per pod, test weight, seed yield per plot and seed yield per hectors whereas for days to 50% flowering and days to maturity data were recorded on whole plot basis among the genotypes of mung bean. At both the genotypic and phenotypic levels, there was a positive association among plant height, pod length, and test weight and seed yield. Days to flowering, days to maturity, and the number of seeds per pod all correlated negatively with seed yield at both the genotypic and phenotypic levels. Path analysis revealed a positive and high direct effect of days to maturity, pod length, and seed yield per hector, as well as a negative and high direct effect of days to flowering, plant height, and test weight, as well as indirect effects of other component characters on seed yield per plot via these characters. As a result, these traits should be prioritised when selecting genotypes for mung bean crop improvement.
