Abstract

The study was carried out in a farmer’s field at Phugwi village in Sekruzu block, Phek, Nagaland. Five Tenyi Vo breeder’s families were selected each from two Khel, namely Rizhoba and Cemhuba, based on the farmers' indigenous traditional knowledge of Tenyi Vo pig farming, who have been rearing pigs for at least 8–10 years and keeping three (3) healthy sows, from which three (3) male piglets were selected from each farmer for the study. Average birth and weaning body weights from Rizhoba and Cemhuba khels were 0.34 kg and 0.36 kg; 4.62 kg and 4.38 kg, respectively, with no significant difference in birth weight and a significant difference in weaning weight. The average age at sexual maturity and weight at sexual maturity was 3.16 and 3.23 months, 7.30 kg and 7.20 kg, respectively, with no significant difference between the two khels. The average time for sex libido and the time taken for the first ejaculation in Rizhoba and Cemhuba were 2.33 minutes and 2.37 minutes, 3.38 minutes, and 3.29 minutes, respectively, with no significant difference. The data collected from the survey recorded nil mortality rates in Rizhoba and Cemhuba, giving them 100 percent livability.
